PELVIC HEALTH PHYSICAL THERAPY

WHAT IS PELVIC HEALTH PT?

Sharing battle scars stories about injuring your shoulder or knee during a workout is a common and easy thing to discuss amongst friends. However, talking about skipping double unders, squatting or running because of urine leakage is not so easy... uncomfortable even!!! Women and men often suffer in silence regarding issues that affect their pelvic floor. Because of the discomfort of talking about these issues some people start to normalize their symptoms, some avoid doing what they love to do altogether, or some just get by satisfying with the bare minimum.

In my 12 years of specializing in Pelvic Health physical therapy I have heard numerous reasons why people are not receiving the help they deserve for their pelvic floor issues, but the most common reason is just NOT KNOWING. Many people and doctors have no idea that there are individuals committed to helping you overcome these issues.

Pelvic floor rehab is physical therapy techniques targeted to treating conditions that affect the pelvic floor such as:

  • Urinary incontinence

  • Urinary frequency and urgency

  • Fecal incontinence

  • Constipation

  • Painful intercourse (dyspareunia)

  • Diastasis recti

  • Pelvic girdle pain after pregnancy

  • Pregnancy

  • Low back pain

So.....

  • Putting on a pad for urine leakage to work out or to play golf is NOT the answer

  • Avoiding jump rope, running or squatting during your workout is NOT the answer

  • Dealing with pain during intercourse and satisfying with not enjoying intimacy is NOT the answer

  • Being dissatisfied with the way your abdomen looks post pregnancy and thinking it is what happens when you have had a baby is NOT the answer

  • Not working during your pregnancy because of fear of hurting yourself or not trusting a trainer to know how to best work with you is NOT the answer
